Job profile
Model makers practice a traditional profession characteristic of Van Cleef & Arpels. Starting from sketches, they create three-dimensional pewter mock-ups of creations, based on associated gouache renderings, to better study their volumes. This indispensable step makes it possible to visualize the proportions of the future creation.
The three-dimensional model is submitted for approval of the aesthetic before starting production.
Model makers use files, pliers and soldering irons to shape the material.
Prerequisites: middle school or high school diploma
After use, models are stored in the workshops.

Jewelers shape jewelry pieces made from precious metal (gold or platinum), often adorned with stones.

Gem setter
The role of gem setters is to adorn jewelry pieces with stones, either precious (diamonds, rubies, sapphires and emeralds), or ornamental (turquoise, lapis lazuli, onyx, etc.).

Polisher
These craftsmen carry out varied polishing procedures to bring out the full radiance of jewelry creations.

Caster
Casters transform three-dimensional wax or resin models of jewelry creations into fully formed gold pieces.

Using sketchwork, designers imagine new creations around a central theme set out by the Maison’s Artistic Director. This is the first step in the creative process.
